The past two weeks was dominated by an ongoing heat wave - with a very short reprieve last weekend (unless you live in the South of the country, like I do). Unfortunately, today was an incredibly hot one, too (temps around 35C/95F).
Watching different teams prepare for their "run". There was one heat for women only teams, one heat for men only teams, and another for mixed teams. The team I was in consisted of Daan (team captain), Naima, Jeroen and Ralf. I participated as a substitute.
Jeroen, Naima and Daan getting ready for the first run of the day. Ralf's just out of the picture.
The second run of the day was right after lunch. (I was actually finishing a burger when we were called to prepare, and two team members just left for the restroom.) Anyway, Daan wanted me to participate in the second run. My brother Arnold managed to come over and cheer us on. He took the following pictures, too:
They - unfortunately - beat us.
The boat and club house. And off we go!
And several minutes later, we finally arrive. The course is a total of 500 meters, with a turn halfway (to keep it simple). ... And the last run of the day (after which Daan took a swim).

I had a great day - despite the heat. I told Daan to count me in for next year. Unless I'm visiting Victoria, BC, that is...
EDIT: We ended 6th place! In the mixed heat there were 8 teams, so I guess we did alright for a bunch of beginners, eh? (With just one team practice under their belts before the races.)
